Astrology Reflection of the Moment -Saturn

Picture of The Planet Saturn

The planet Saturn went direct in the sign of Pisces on November 4th after being retrograde in the deep waters for the past few months.

Do you believe what you have witnessed during this time? Do you believe what we have collectively learned during this time of reflection? What actions will be required from those lessons?

Saturn is a planet known for his “harshness” within astrology. (Stay with me here, even if you don’t “do” astrology).

Why? Because he rules things like time, maturity, boundaries, responsiblity, and discipline. So, Saturn is seen as a “strict parent” of sorts who requires one to go through restriction before reward.

HOWEVER, Saturn also rules the margins of society. And when we pull back and ask the question, “what is Saturn trying to SHOW and TEACH us, especially in this moment?”, I would argue we need to see Saturn as not a harsh parent…but a very caring one who is tired of seeing the ways these structures and systems have placed borders and boundaries around how we see and care for one another. And our relationship to other forms of life, because humanity is both a newer species on this planet and we need other life forms to live.

These systems and structures impact how we can mature into ourselves and work with one another.

They are keeping us stagnant and complacent, NOT safe and secure. Whose definitions of these terms are using? Whose sight is privileged? Is it true?

And Saturn is SCREAMING at us to see our own oppression. To understand the ways we have been bounded under the imagination of colonial projects that only saw certain folks as human as a way to use others folks as sources of labor.

This has been evident the past 15 of so years as Pluto (the planet of death and rebirth, power, and transformation) has been in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (along with Aquarius), meaning for the past 15 years we have witnessed and felt the reality of how governmental structures exploit workers for their labor. This is because Capricorn is a cardinal Earth sign that brings in the winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) and is known as a steady, loyal, “hardworking” sign, that can also have a hardened or stubborn heart due to being seen as a “workaholic”.

And a Capricorn likes power, but what kind and how is the real question.

Really, I see Capricorn as sign that is focused and dedicated to the work and people around them, but within a system of capitalism that energy is co-opted and transmuted so that the most aggressive and exploitative nature of this sign is rewarded (think the Wall Street or Billionaire archetype).

Essentially, the system of capitalism has really shown its ass and we are being asked if we believe the system for what it is, because change is coming. Change is here - the only constant in life is change. Yet, capitalism is about being stuck, keeping the system the same.

Reproduction.

Reproducing.

What are we reproducing and why?

If you can’t see their own oppression, or the oppression of others, and how that is facilitated by the nation-state (government) you/they are living in, that create rigid borders and boundaries that also cut off land and life - then how can one actually mature and grow with all that confinement?

So if Saturn rules the margins of society, and it is the margins who are first impacted by the brutality of the modern nation-state, then Saturn is asking us to listen to those at the margins so that we can break the chains put around all of us.

Because Saturn is actually caring, and we can tell that from its properties. The 2nd largest planet in our solar system and 6th from the Sun, Saturn has the most moons (146 to date). The moon rules our emotions - it is the emotional body. And we must feel our emotions and let them flow through us so we can release, learn, and grow into who we truly are.

With all those moons, all Saturn CAN do is FEEL.

Alongside the fact Saturn’s rings are not solid - they are more fluid and disappear from time to time. So even the boundaries of Saturn’s ring allow for flow and movement - directly opposite the ways borders and boundaries are erected here by those in power.

There is no surface of Saturn, if is a flattened ball made of hydrogen and helium. So you are not meant to stay there, it is not permanent.

Sounds pretty queer to me….

So Saturn cares enough to knock some sense into us but showing us the REALITY of our realities, and THAT is harsh when you have been living within the fantasy of the state (Neptune in Pisces). And that fantasy will always come crashing down because it is not sustainable, but it will keep encroaching more and more until enough people either resist or are removed.

And who tends to speak up and out against the brutality of these states - those at the margins of society who are the first to have to bear the BRUNT of that violence. And THEY are the ones who are then deemed “harsh” or “doing too much” or just flat out not believed.

Do you see the connection here?

When you don’t want to face your reality, when you are have been living in the imagination of your oppressor, then those asking you to awaken to other imaginations/possibilities/perspectives will be seen as the problem.

The marginalized will be further pushed to the margins, being restricted in their speech and movement to ensure the dominant narrative is maintained.

Again, how can one mature when you are resisting maturation? And maturity in this sense is learning that you have been disciplined into accepting a limited and BOUNDED understanding of the human, humanity, and life.

Life is meant to flow.

Living is meant to be freeing for all living beings.

This is not a naive of unattainable goal, is the point of life.

But we have not been living, nor really been human, for a very long time.

And so Saturn, because he actually is trying to help us SEE and BELIEVE these restrictions put upon living and life, is doing his job.

And it is not an easy one, but it is a caring one. We just have a warped sense of what love really is. And we get no love from the modern nation-state, we just get MORE restrictions, borders, boundaries, and repression.

No, Saturn is not about that.

Neither are the margins.

So whose perspective are you using to see your reality? And is it keeping you confined or allowing you to really mature into your humanity?
